William is 2 weeks old

Doug took this darling picture of our William, who is 2 weeks old!

We thought it was a good follow up picture to this photo of my belly, taken by my friend Allison. You can see the rest of the pictures from my maternity shoot on her blog, here. Thank you, Allison for capturing my pregnancy so perfectly for me!

Doug's First Bike Race - 50 miles

I am proud of Doug for completing the 50mile Ride Ataxia this morning in Denton, Texas. We waited at the finish line to congratulate him!

This is the group that Doug rides with on the weekends sometimes:

And I am a little proud of myself too, because this was my first outing with all three boys by myself. I am happy to report that it was easier than I expected!

Our first 10 days with William at home

We are enjoying this sweet little guy...

These are some of William's first appointments with the pediatrician. His first visit was the day after we came home from the hospital. His bilirubin levels were high when we left the hospital and it continued to rise over the next five days, which caused some concern. Also his digestive system was not really working, which also does not allow the bilirubin to be flushed from the body. He was 8 pounds at birth, then 7 pounds 6 ounces when we left the hospital, but then he went down to 7 pounds the first few days after coming home from the hospital. He also spit up blood twice and had some blood in his diaper. So, in the first week, I took him to the doctor and/or hospital for blood work every single day. It was exhausting for all of us.

We tried a small lamp first and some real sunshine to try to bring his bilirubin level down:

When that was unsuccessful, the home health care company brought us this "bed" for William to sleep in. He spent 12 hours straight in it. Finally, over the weekend, William started to turn the corner and do really well. Since then, everything has been great.

We have enjoyed holding him and watching him look around when he is awake (which is not often):

Doug has been home but has gotten some work done too. Speaking of work, Doug's office sent these beautiful flowers and the silver rattle:

William has really long feet. In fact, when they were printing them in the hospital, they barely fit in the square on the paper. The nurses commented about his long feet. See all of the little needle pricks on his heels from all of the blood tests? Poor little guy!

We have been hanging out at home and giggling at the funny things William does and the funny faces he makes:

Lucas got to take an announcement (that we made together) and put it on the "Baby News" board at school. The principal also let him go on the announcements and tell about William's arrival. Lucas was SO thrilled:

Finally, after about 10 days at home, William got his first bath at home. He loved it:

We were fortunate to have Doug's mom here for the first week. It was so helpful to have her here. She cooked some delicious meals (Doug's favorite - chicken crepes) and cleaned my house. The boys enjoyed playing with her and Lucas loved reading to her! She took them on outings and they played games at home. Thank you, Susan!

My mom stayed an extra week because of all of the doctor visits, etc. The boys were well cared for and got a lot of playtime with her (and some fun outings as well), which they loved. She left yesterday and we all miss her. She cleaned my house, did all of my laundry, and left us in tip-top shape. Thank you, Mom!

Sam has had some really funny things to say. He asked me this morning, "Where's my baby? I miss all the day." I have also called William a "rotten egg" a few times because he has been really gassy, to which Sam replies, "He is not a rockin' egg!"

We are all enjoying our new baby! And now, I am off to take a nap!

The Heaps meet baby William

On their drive home from their spring break trip to Disney World, my sister and her family drove out of their way to come to Dallas and meet William for a few hours. The kids had a great time. It was short, but sweet.
