Narcolepsy?

It's funny that Lucas used to be such a terrible sleeper, but now he seems to fall asleep anywhere. And once he's out, I cannot wake him. My sister suggested that maybe he has narcolepsy - after all, the other day he almost fell asleep in the bath tub. I barely got him out before he passed out. When I took him to the hospital for stitches a few weeks ago, he fell asleep in the cab on the way over and I could not wake him once we arrived. The doctors in the ER were quite alarmed.

Then, a few days ago I left Lucas sitting at the computer and took the garbage to the hallway. When I came back he was asleep - but not as you see in the picture below - his head was hanging all the way back. Just as I got the camera out, he leaned his head forward on to the desk.

And here Lucas fell asleep eating dinner (and watching TV) while I was putting Sam down for a nap. I was out of the room for about 8 minutes.

Norwalk, CT

We decided to start venturing out of the city once a month. Yesterday we went to Norwalk, Connecticut where they have a great aquarium.

Doug and Lucas made a boat together.

(Sam and I watched.)

Then we had lunch at a little pizza place on Main Street.

Sam loves to laugh

Doug is the best at getting Sam to really laugh. This is adorable!

Shake Shack

We met up with some of Doug's friends last week at the Shake Shack. As always, it was fun and the food was delicious. We got to meet Matt and Erin's new baby, too, and he is adorable.

School Pictures

Have you ever seen a cuter school picture? Seriously, I need to ask them how they got such a great smile out of Lucas!

Friends in town

We love the Bradys, who used to live in the same building as we did when Lucas was a baby. They were in town for a short visit over the weekend and came over for an evening of take-out food and visiting! Great to you guys - thank you for coming over.

After the park

After our day at the park, Doug and Sam watched a little television. Lucas almost fell asleep in the tub (a first!), but I was able to get him out and onto a pillow first.

A day at the park...

After a crazy work week, Doug was home on Saturday (after working until 5am so he could be home). The weather was gorgeous, so we went to the park. Julianne joined us and we had a great time.

The full roll...

for those who weren't convinced.

Sam is rolling all over the place...

A day before Sam turned 3 months old he rolled over. He rolled from his tummy to his back. I immediately had flashbacks of Lucas crawling at 5 1/2 months and decided to try to prolong the inevitable. Since that day that he rolled over a few times, I have not given Sam the opportunity to do it again. Then yesterday I left him under the play mat while I was doing something else and I came back into the room to find that he had rolled from his back to his tummy. This morning when I went to get Sam out of his crib, he had rolled completely over. I am posting the following video where he doesn't quite roll all the way, but I thought it was cute (Lucas is giving him lots of encouragement). Nothing can stop him now...not even me!

FAMILY NIGHT (in the morning)

Of course, Thomas (the new fish) needed a respectable home. An ice cream dish certainly would not be good long-term. So on Saturday morning, Doug and Luc went to the pet store to get a fish bowl. They came home with a fish bowl, some rocks, a plant, and yes...two more fish, one of which is pregnant. So, say hello to Thomas, Gordon, and Mavis. We have made a commitment here. We put it all together for our Family Night activity - at 10am (hey, we do it when we can!)...

A Perfect Day

Yesterday was the last day of Spring Break. A week that started off a little rough with a trip to the ER ended with perfect day. It was 68 degrees and sunny, so we went to the park for a few hours. Sam took his first ride in the swing and really liked it.

Julianne met us and then we got ice cream.

Then we went to Julianne's apartment for a little while. After that we came home for an early bath because Lucas played hard at the park and really needed one. Around 5pm we went for an evening scooter ride to Columbia. There happened to be a fair going on, so we checked it out. Lucas got to play some fun games and then we got in line to try to catch a real fish to take home. After about 20 minutes of trying unsuccessfully, a nice guy offered to catch one for Lucas. I think he was tired of hearing Sam squawk and wanted his own turn to catch a fish - but either way, I was happy to have someone catch one for Lucas. Lucas was ecstatic.

On the way home, the poor fish got dropped once and squished a few times, but it survived. I asked Lucas what he was going to name his fish and he said "waffle." I told him that was a nice name, but a few minutes later Lucas said, "no, a waffle is for eating, I am going to name him Thomas." Lucas ate dinner with Thomas right there in a glass next to him. (We have since moved him to a bigger bowl and are headed out today to get some fish food since Lucas is concerned that Thomas is hungry. I noticed that Luc dropped a few bites of his dinner into the glass for Thomas last night.)

Elise, Dallin, & Lily

Our dear friends - Elise, Dallin, & Lily - came up for a visit this week. It has been awhile, so it was great to see them, catch up, and go to the park and let the kids play. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time! After they left, Lucas said, "Mom, I really liked playing with Dallin. He's nice." (Lucas also calls him "Dall" - he is really into calling a person by the first syllable of their name.)

Lucas and Dallin had fun in the sandbox.

(The babies were happy on the mat for a good 15 minutes until Sam stole Lily's bow off her head. Then there was some fussing.)

Sam

Our Sam is sure adorable. It's fun to see his personality emerging. He is almost 6 months old, which is really hard to believe. By this point, Lucas was crawling, but Sam is happy just hanging out. And we are super happy with that. Sam rolled over about 2 months ago but I have not given him the chance to do it again. I will be in trouble when Sam is mobile and I have two boys to chase in opposite directions!

The Bronx Zoo

A few days ago we went to the Bronx Zoo with our friends - Hillary, James, and Henry. It was a little chilly, but we had fun! It was a 7-hour outing with Sam in the carrier and Luc in the stroller. We all slept well that night.

Lucas and his Julianne

Lucas loves his Aunt Julianne. He calls her "my Julianne." If she is near by, he is either in her lap playing with her iPhone or right next to her trying to wiggle into her lap.

Time Out

The other day I sent Lucas to time out on the rug. He knows the drill and goes obediently, even though sometimes (as he is going) he says, "I'm not gonna go." Anyway...this particular time he took Austin with him and said he was in time out too. He didn't want me to take his picture in time out so he covered his face.

General Conference

I was listening to Conference the other day on my laptop and Lucas wanted a turn:

More funny stories...

1 - Lucas thought he spotted President Obama the other day. He loudly exclaimed for all to hear, "Hey Mom, there's Obama...over there in the glasses!" As it turns out, it was just a regular guy waiting for the bus. I explained to Lucas that Obama lives in Washington, so it's not likely that we will see him on the street. Although if we do, Lucas will certainly let me know.
2 - The other day we went to Rite Aid for some stuff. Lucas wanted a toy and I said no. Then he wanted some candy. I explained to him that we cannot buy a toy or treat every time we go to the store. He said, "But Mommy, if I don't get a toy or a treat, I will be very sad." He had a point, and he was indeed sad, but we left without the toy or the treat.

Poser

Lucas loves to pose for the camera most of the time. I wear a headband when I wash my face at night. Therefore, Lucas likes to wear one too sometimes. But when he wears his headband, this is what he does:

More Easter pictures...

Sorry, I got a little sidetracked with Luc's trip to the ER and Spring Break.
Here are the rest of our Easter pictures:

A trip to the Emergency Room

We almost took Lucas to the ER a few weeks ago when he had a terrible stomach bug and could not stop vomiting, but we were able to avoid it. Today, we were not so lucky. We were at the park with Emily, Gavin, and Eli when Lucas fell and hit his chin on the playground equipment he was playing on. Poor guy. Luckily, Emily took Sam and I rushed Lucas to the ER (but not until after a few moms swooped in to offer help - one gave Lucas a chocolate bunny). Lucas was very brave and we were only there for about 3 hours. They didn't even give him a shot to numb him before the stitches, though they did put some cream on it to "numb it" (yeah right!)...Here is what he looks like now:

This was a few hours later. He is definitely feeling better. After the big ordeal, Lucas just wanted to get home and see Daddy! (And eat some Peeps.)

HAPPY EASTER

It's official. Lucas is funny.

Lucas is hilarious. Here are some funny things he has said lately:

The other night I was tucking him in to bed and I asked him if he wanted me to scratch his back. He rolled to his tummy and said, “If you want to.”

~

The other day he asked me for a snack. I said, “would you like some grapes?” He replied that he would like just one grape. I said, “how about a bowl of them?” He said, nope, he just wanted one. So I went in the kitchen to get some grapes and he came in and said, “The boy is here for his grape.” (We have been reading “The Giving Tree.”)

~

Lucas had a friend over and they were playing trains in his room. I heard Lucas exclaim, “Hey! Do you want to go watch my mom feed baby Sam?” His friend said, “Yeah” and they came running into the living room. I wasn’t feeding Sam at the time and Lucas said, “Oh, she’s not feeding him right now. Let's come back later.”

~

In bed the other night, Lucas and I had a conversation that went like this:

Lucas: I am feeling sad.

Me: Oh yeah, why?

Lucas: Sometimes I just feel sad.

Me: That’s true. Me too. But do you know what you can do to turn those sad feelings into happy feelings?

Lucas: No, what?

Me: You can think about all of the happy things about our day. For example, you pooped in the toilet today twice and got two prizes. We went for a scooter ride for a long time. We played trains. We painted. We aren't sick anymore.

Lucas: Yeah.

Me: And you can think about the happy things that we have to look forward to.

Lucas: Like what?

Me: Like tomorrow, we are going to get cupcakes with Kelsey and Brian.

Lucas: But I don’t have a cupcake right NOW, and I am sad right now.

Kelsey & Brian in NYC

My sister, Kelsey, and her husband, Brian, came to NYC for a few days. Brian was presenting a research paper that he wrote while currently in his OB/GYN residency. We had a great time with them, though I was sick for a good part of the visit. But they were good sports and we hung out as much as we could.

And here are a few other cute pictures of the kiddos. Sam really is happiest when he can watch Lucas (no matter what Lucas is doing):

And all of my boys playing with play-dough (okay, so Sam is just watching):

We are grateful for good health again...

Now that the stomach flu has exited our apartment (after almost a full week)...we are all feeling almost 100% again. Poor Lucas was a very sick little boy. It was difficult to keep him entertained while he was sick, but I tried. One day he wanted me to make some animals out of clay. The following was my sad attempt at it, and why I am not an artist, although Lucas was pleased:

(I will give you a prize if you can guess all 7 animals accurately. Actually, it's 6 animals and 1 creature.)

Watching tv helped too:

And one day, we went for a stroller-ride because we all just needed to get some fresh air. We went to the Cathedral to look for the 3 peacocks that live there (one white one, and two green-blue ones):

A Purple Cupcake at 4 p.m.

This video is hilarious...enjoy!
